Matthew Conboy is an award winning Writer, Director and Producer living in New York City. His debut documentary feature film, Goodnight Brooklyn, was selected for the jury competition at the 2016 SXSW Film Festival. The film screened internationally, including a theatrical run in the US and film festivals in London, Copenhagen, New York, Taiwan, Tel Aviv, Cologne, Los Angeles and dozens of cities around the world. He went on to win Best International Documentary Feature at Melbourne Documentary Film Festival. It is currently streaming on Amazon Prime.
His film Checking in at 20 profiling the drummers of the bands Deerhoof and Lightning Bolt was acquired by Pitchfork and features interviews with Wayne Coyne of The Flaming Lips, John Dwyer of Thee Oh Sees and Michael Azerrad author of Our Band Could Be Your Life.
His advertising client list includes Lincoln Financial, Mondavi, Brisk, Wells Fargo, Supercell, Abbott Pharmaceuticals, Microsoft, Tapad, Intel, RedBull, Bloomberg, Napa County, among many others.
Conboy has also directed numerous short films, most recently the upcoming film Rear View starring Morgan Saylor (Blow the Man Down, White Girl, Homeland) and Babak Tafti (Super Pumped, Succession, Rami, Legacies) adapted from the feature film screenplay by Timothy Gunatilaka.
He produced the animated film Worm by artist and animator Becky James. He also co-produced Bryan Wizemann’s feature film You Mean Everything to Me starring Morgan Saylor (Blow the Man Down, White Girl, Homeland) and Ben Rosenfield (Mark, Mary & Some Other People, Mrs. America, Twin Peaks, Boardwalk Empire).
Matthew has filmed music videos and concerts for No Kill, Ty Segall, The Flaming Lips, Future Islands, Parquet Courts, Les Savy Fav, Spoon, Jeff the Brotherhood to name just a few.
Conboy consulted for Beerland’s Jukebox Cinema quarterly screening series in Austin Texas, hosting screenings and Q&As with filmmakers from around the world including the 10th anniversary screening of Wayne Coyne’s psychedelic sci-fi feature film Christmas on Mars.
Outside of film work, Conboy started the independent music venue Death By Audio, in Williamsburg Brooklyn. He forged close ties with artists like Ty Segall, Thee Oh Sees, The Flaming Lips, Future Islands, Au Revoir Simone, Deerhoof, Dan Deacon, Dirty on Purpose and countless others, creating custom equipment, designing posters, producing albums and music videos.
